Fire safety skylights – rectangular, round or asymmetrical
Designer skylights/skylight domes with fire safety glass in accordance with EU-Norm EN 13501
Fire protection glazing is also available for skylights and skylight domes, both for walk-on skylights as well as fixed-glazed flat rooflights, without any shape limitations: from rectangular or round to free-form, everything is possible.
Depending on the required safety rating, GLASOLUX fire safety skylights are available in fire resistance classes Ei 30 and EI 90. Fire-retardant EI 30 fire safety glass can withstand heat and fire for 30 minutes before it breaks, while fire-resistant EI 90 glass can last for up to 90 minutes.
Fire safety glazing always has to have fixed glazing, so there are no skylights that can be opened.
Walk-on fire safety skylights
Fire safety skylights are also available as walk-on floor glazing, in which case combined glazing is used, consisting of fire-retardant or fire-resistant glazing to the room below and SkyVision WALK-ON flat roof glazing on top.
Materials
The fire resistant panes used by GLASOLUX are Pilkington fire protection insulating glass, which consists of laminated safety glass with intermediate fire protection layers, a splinter-binding film (on the interior) and an ESG outer pane. Foaming fire protection layers absorb the energy from the fire over the required period of time. In case of fire, the thermally insulating block of glass and foam prevents the surface temperature from rising by more than 140 K (on average) above the initial temperature within the desired fire resistance class (standard fire tests according to DIN 4102 or European standard EN 1363). The fire safety glass is covered by a 10-year guarantee.
Fire-safety glazing must be surrounded by adjoining structural elements in the same fire resistance class, or higher, which are usually provided by the customer.
The uppermost glass surfaces of walk-on fire safety skylights are the same as those used in our SkyVision WALK-ON flat rooflights.
